Very likely, yes. First time I met John was at ABC No Rio (probably '84) and you almost always saw him with his long beard recording at readings. John definitely recorded at St. Marks (where Bob Holman directed before Nuyorican) and I know he was friends with Edwin Torres. WBAI broadcast two series on my work (poetry/sound) in '87 and in '89 and the producer and I dug through John's boxes to find recordings of my readings for the shows. My last involvement with the poetry scene was 1990 Poet's Theatre Festival at La MaMa (Bob Holman organized) where I presented pre-show sound.

Your reference to ABC No Rio sure brought back memories. They also had a poetry series where I read several times before I started to work with sound. Amazingly, almost all the poetry readings that happened in the East Village/Lower East Side during the 80s era were recorded by the ubiquitous John Fisk of WBAI Radio who created an archive of cassettes that filled a room in his apartment.

Thanks for sharing. Love WBAI! Does that archive include the Nuyorican?
