Day 7 of Unsound was my favorite of the festival, but I’ll have to save much of my thoughts for my review article. It began with a two hour “Ambient Brunch” DJ set by Antonina Nowacka, a Polish experimental vocalist and composer, at the Puro hotel in Kazimierz. Afterwards we took a walk around the neighborhood and recorded an interview (part of a future Unsound episode of the Sound Propositions podcast). Marginal Consort, the legendary improvising collective performed their one annual three-hour long concert at the Museum of Engineering and Technology surrounded by old trams. Over at the state of the art ICE concert hall, Ale Hop & Laura Robles shared their Peruvian rhythms under a flurry of guitar drones, Lee Gamble premiered his new record Models with some conceptually resonant choreography, and Ben Frost & Greg Kubacki admittedly had some technical difficulties but still brought the house down. If that’s not enough, there was a full nights worth of programming across two stages at the Kamienna 12 railyard, including performances from Kill Alters, Dreamcrusher, Shapednoise, and more.
