Sorry to the radio silence yesterday. Today I’ll be sending out two newsletters, recapping Day 6 and Day 7. Today is the 8th and final day of Unsound, and is a relatively compact denouement to what has been a fun week. I literally didn’t have a minute to myself yesterday, especially as I made sure to make time to eat, unlike Day 6, where I went straight from my bed to our music writers workshop with guest Whitney Wei, EIC of Resident Advisor, spent some hours in our industry co-working area writing up Day 5 for substack and finishing up some grant proposals. From there I went down to the Crikoteca to catch the last day of the After Words (2022) sound installation, before hopping on a tram across town for Mabe Fratti, Jennifer Walshe, and Autechre, grabbing some chips, a candy bar, and a cheap Polish beer on the walk over. The food here is very good, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options as well, but the co-working space isn’t open on the weekend, and with interviews and concerts all day, and my laptop left in my room.
There was no Morning Glory concert on Friday morning, however clair rousay was scheduled to DJ the first of two “Ambient Brunches” at the bougie Puro hotel. Perhaps one day my press credentials will be prestigious enough that I too can be put up in an actual hotel. But alas, this trip is on my own dime, alleviated partly thanks to you generous paid subscribers. If the rest of you are interested in reading more, please subscribe. Otherwise just a few more of these Unsound recaps, and then I’ll finally share the first installment of Out of the Box, and for paid subscribers, some behind the scenes of my upcoming visit to the archives of Italian composer Egisto Macchi.
